Suede 

For our Friulane shoes, we have chosen the traditional construction technique, crafted exactly in the place where they originated. They naturally adapt to the shape of the foot, gently embracing it and offering exceptional comfort.

Crafted from the innermost layer of calfskin, the leather is gently buffed to reveal a velvety, nuanced surface. This distinctive effect — known in artisanal language as scrivenza — lends subtle tonal variations and a natural sense of depth.A careful oil treatment enhances its shades and texture, enriching the material with a fuller, softer hand and a quietly sophisticated character. Each hide is meticulously selected and examined prior to cutting, privileging only the finest sections. A final brushing revives the nap and preserves its natural suppleness. The result is a refined balance of technique and sensitivity — understated, tactile, and timeless.

True to tradition, the sole is made of recycled rubber from bicycle tires, a choice that combines authenticity and sustainability. Originally called “zavatis”, meaning slipper, the Friulana was intended for indoor use. The addition of the rubber sole made it suitable for outdoor wear while preserving its authentic character.

To preserve the refined character of suede leather, we recommend: – Gently brushing with a suede brush or soft bristles to remove dust and surface impurities, always following the direction of the nap.
– For light marks, using a suede eraser, avoiding water whenever possible.
– Applying a protective spray specifically designed for suede to help guard against moisture and stains.
– After exposure to rain, allowing the shoes to dry naturally, away from direct heat sources, then softly brushing to restore the nap.
– Storing in a cool, dry place, ideally with shoe trees to help maintain their shape.
– Using a deodorising or sanitising spray inside the shoe and allowing a few hours before wearing. Gentle, consistent care will preserve the softness and natural depth of the leather over time.

Our Friulane are delivered in a simple, recyclable cardboard box, designed to minimize environmental impact while ensuring safe transport. Each pair is accompanied by a 100% cotton dust bag, reusable and breathable, ideal for protecting the shoes over time. We believe in a conscious approach to packaging: essential, functional, and sustainable, avoiding unnecessary materials and favoring natural fibers. We travelled to Gonars, in the province of Udine, where the tradition of crafting friulane has been passed down through generations, preserved with pride and respect for its origins. In the past, the women of the village would sew them entirely by hand, joining the upper to the sole using the sotpont — the distinctive stitch worked from the underside that still defines their authenticity today.Artisans continue to honour these original techniques, faithfully preserving the gestures and rhythms of traditional craftsmanship. Alongside this heritage, great care is devoted to the selection of the finest materials. Each hide is meticulously examined before cutting, and only the most refined sections are chosen, ensuring balance, durability, and enduring beauty.
